Book Discussion for all Spiritual Directors

Candelight: Illuminating the Art of Spiritual Direction
by Susan Phillips

This is a ‘brilliant evocation of spiritual direction in action.
If I were permitted only one book on spiritual direction, this would be it.”’
(Eugene Peterson, author of The Message)

Professional Development Session for Spiritual Directors

An introduction to Candlelight: Illuminating the Art of Spiritual Direction
(the book & blog) for all Spiritual Directors

Wednesday 5 April
10am to 12noon

Facilitator: Tim McCowan

“People express curiosity about what I do…they wonder about my listening practice. I spend many hours listening to people—to what they say and don’t say, to inflections, silences, laughter, weeping, aspirations, sorrows, joy, and longings. I listen for prayer…I listen for how the holy penetrates lives. I am there to help people discover the ways their lives are imbued with spirituality. This is spiritual direction.”

(p,1, Candlelight: Illuminating the Art of Spiritual Direction by Susan Phillips).

  • raising your own questions and concerns;
  • sharing your experiences in a safe, supportive forum;
  • engaging also with the author’s experience from time to time.
